Photo Tips
We would like to help you create the perfect invitation
or announcement. It is our experience that the photographs used are
vitally important to the finished product, so we’ve put together some
tips for you, to help ensure that your design will be as beautiful as
it possibly can be!
If you are interested in getting professional photographs, we have a
list of photographers that we have chosen, and recommend for their
customer service and quality!
Digital Camera and Scanner settings.
This one of the most important aspects of your photo
quality. If you are using a digital camera, you want to make sure that
it is set to the highest possible resolution. We recommend that photos
be at least 300 dpi or 1800x1200 pixels. Photos that are taken at a low
resolution will look very good on your computer, but will not have a
good print quality. If you are scanning your photos, you first want to
make sure that your scanner is completely clean of fingerprints and
dust, as these will show up and effect the quality of your photos.
Next, make sure that the scanner is set to at least 300dpi/resolution.
Save all scanned files as .jpg documents.
Background and Lighting
We highly recommend that the background of your photos
be as neutral as possible. The baby should be the main focus of the
photos, and loud patterns and colors in the background tend to be a
distraction. Try laying a neutral colored sheet down first, so that the
background of your photos will be consistent and even. Natural lighting
is always best as it is the most flattering. Try taking photos in a
very well lit room or near a window. When using a flash, ensure that
there is other good lighting in the room to avoid dark shadows and over
lighting your baby's face.
Clothing
We recommend dressing your baby in solid colors or
blankets. Strong colors and patterns should be avoided because they can
distract from your baby and your chosen design. You may also opt to use
photos with baby in just a diaper or wrapped in a blanket!
Get Closer!
When taking photos for your announcement, you almost
can't be too close to your baby. Your baby is the focus of your
announcement or invitation and they should be the main focus of your
photos! Focus is also VERY important, as we cannot take an out of focus
or blurry photo and sharpen it. You will be happier with the finished
products if all your photos are in sharp focus. Take lots of different
shots and experiment with different positions and angles! Go for a
variety because you are never sure which ones you will fall in love
with.
Photo Dos and Don't
Do send us more than one photo, if you are having
trouble choosing. We can take a look and determine which will give you
the best finished product.
Don't edit your photos at home! We have all the capabilities to edit
your photos in any way that you would like, so please upload the
original high resolution photos. If you'd like to email cropped
versions, so we can see how you'd like them, that is great, but please
upload the original files!
Don't forget to look at the orientation of the photos required for your
design! If the design calls for a vertical photo, and you email a
horizontal photo, it will not fit in well.
Don't send low resolution photos. You will be disappointed with the
final print quality! Even if you love the photo, the photo will not
appear the same as it does to you on the web or on your computer. If
your photos will not print well, we will let you know when we receive
them, and request others. Photos saved from web galleries are typically
low resolution, and camera phone photos are not suitable. |
